The House Springs Elementary School Gymnasium and Safe Room Addition was designed to enhance student safety while providing much-needed space for physical education, athletics, and school activities. The new single-story expansion replaces the limitations of the previous, detached, gymnasium by creating a direct connection to the main school building through a new ADA-accessible lift, improving accessibility, convenience, and the overall functionality of the campus.

A key component of the project is the addition of an ICC-500 compliant tornado safe room, providing a secure shelter for students and staff during severe weather events while also serving as a modern, multipurpose gymnasium for daily use. The project also included a new circulation drive around the perimeter of the addition to improve vehicle flow and reduce congestion, as well as a new retention pond designed to address existing stormwater challenges. Together, these improvements provide House Springs Elementary with a safer, more efficient, and adaptable environment that better serves the needs of students, staff, and the surrounding community.
