Springfield Public Schools // Eugene Field Tornado Safe Room Addition

Project Type
PreK-12, Tornado Safe Rooms

The Eugene Field Safe Room was not one of the projects slated for the April 2020 round of the bond issues but due to many of the projects coming in under budget, the Springfield School District was able to move forward with this project.  The Safe Room and connecting corridor add an additional 10,563 square feet to Field Elementary.  The daily use of this saferoom will be a gymnasium with a music classroom and performance stage.  Rated to ICC 500 Standards, the saferoom will serve multiple functions, allow their school to have a dedicated space for athletic activities and arts, as well as a place of refuge.  The saferoom can hold 921 occupants and will be opened to the community in the event of a storm.  This will accommodate the entire school occupancy as well as several community members.
